Jan 8th ‘07: Joe Barry Memorial 2007 Schedule and Teams IPC (FL)

Superstar Adolfo Cambiaso Leads New Bridge La Dolfina Against Pony Express to Highlight Opening Da y at International Polo Club on Sunday, Jan. 14 at 3 p.m.

WELLINGTON, FL (January 7, 2007) – Superstar Adolfo Cambiaso, the Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods of polo, leads pre-tournament favorite New Bridge La Dolfina against Pony Express in the first featured match of the 22-goal Joe Barry Memorial Cup Sunday at 3 p.m. on Stanford Field at International Polo Club Palm Beach.

Cambiaso, in 1993 at the age of 17, became the youngest 10-goaler (the sport’s maximum rating) in the history of the sport. The five-time U.S. Open champion turns 32 on April 14 and is scheduled to play the entire season for the first time in the history of the club.

The tournament schedule was released Sunday.

New Bridge La Dolfina went 12-1 and won two of the three tournaments they played in during the 2006 season at International Polo Club. Cambiaso did not play in the season’s final two tournaments last year as he had previously committed to returning to Argentina. Cambiaso is joined by 9-goaler Matias Magrini and 3-goaler Martin Valent of Argentina and patron Russ McCall of Atlanta and Aiken. Valent replaces Sunny Hale from last year’s fearsome lineup.

Pony Express is led by 8-goaler Nicolas Roldan, who grew up in Wellington. Roldan is expected to be the team’s leading scorer. He is joined by 7-goaler Gonzalo Von Wernich and 6-goaler Tomas Goti, both of Argentina and patron Bob Daniels. Pony Express is expected to double-team Cambiaso most of the game to try and force him to give up the ball.

The polo matches are open to the public. General admission for the Sunday games at International Polo Club Palm Beach is $10 for adults. Children under 12 enter for free. Tickets may be purchased in advance and they are also available at the gate on the day of the game.

International Polo Club Palm Beach is located at 3667 120th Avenue South, between Pierson Road and Lake Worth Road in Wellington. For information, directions or ticket purchases, please call the club at (561) 204-5687 or visit the website at www.internationalpoloclub.com.
